Online Course Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get the course module to load?

A slow internet connection can stop a course module loading, but a more common problem is caused by your browser. If using a PC, Internet Explorer will not run the course modules – instead, use Chrome or Firefox.

How do I get the course module to run properly?

If you experience technical difficulties while viewing a module, please ensure that you have the latest version of Flash and Firefox, or Chrome loaded on your computer. The course module will not run well on tablets or smart phones.

Recent upgrades to the course modules caused by changes to browser software has resulted in the seekbar facility having limited authority. It will now often not be possible to use the seekbar to move back in a slide. To replay earlier parts of a slide, click on the previous slide in the menu on the left and use the next button to move on the slide you wish to replay. There is an adition problem with Firefox - the slide may lock-up if you try to repeat videos more than once.

How do I close a course module?

The course module runs in its own browser window, so all you need to do is close the window:

  • Firefox: click on the white X in the red square at the top right of the screen

  • Chrome: click on the white X in the red square at the top right of the screen

  • Safari: Click on the red dot at the top left of the screen

How do I get the completion tick to appear?

First you need to visit every slide in a module. Please avoid moving forwards to a new slide using the menu on the left. This can cause you to miss an intermediate slide that is not listed in the menu. Use the ‘Next’ button to move forward.

Once you have closed a course module, the course menu page will reappear. At this stage this page has not been refreshed by the server, so the completion tick may not show. You can get the tick to appear by taking some action that will cause the browser to interact with the server, such as clicking on the ‘refresh’ button (a curly arrow near the top of the window).

Will I have access to the course material when I have completed the course?

Once you have completed the course, your login will still be available for a couple of months to enable you to go back over the modules to cement your learning and download the resources. However, we have limited logins available, so after this time your login will be removed.
